Major General James E. Taylor
Major General James E. Taylor, originally from Logan Utah, enlisted into the Minnesota Army National Guard in December of 1982. In December of 1986, he was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps, and subsequently graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Biochemistry. He has earned several Master's Degrees including a Master's of Science in Biochemistry from Iowa State University; a Master's of Science in International Relations from Troy University; a Master's of Military Arts and Sciences from the US Army Command and General Staff College; and, a Master's of Science in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University.
He has served at every echelon from Platoon to Army Staff. His assignments included numerous command, staff, and leadership positions-whose focus encompassed plans, operations, strategy, cyber intelligence, capability development, interagency task forces and joint and combined operations.
Selected for Brigadier General in 2014, he served as the Deputy Director of Plans, Policy and Strategy (J-5), North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and United States Northern Command (NORTHCOM); Commander, US Army Element, NORAD and NORTHCOM; Deputy Director of Operations (J3) NORTHCOM; and, most recently as the Special Assistant to the Director of the Army National Guard for Cyber intelligence Operations, Plans, and Strategy. In 2018 he became the Director, InterAmerican Defense College.
Having served in a variety of theaters, his awards, badges, and decorations are consistent with those of most Soldiers who have had the honor to serve their country over a period of decades and the good fortune to return safely home. He is blissfully married to his wife Wendy. Together, they raised four children, and enjoy their grandchildren.
