Robert A. Zimmerman, J.D. - USA
Robert A. Zimmerman is a U.S. career Foreign Service Officer serving as a member of the Faculty at the Inter-American Defense College.
Mr. Zimmerman most recently served as U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Counselor of Embassy in Prague, the Czech Republic. Previously, he worked overseas as Public Affairs Officer in Montevideo, Uruguay; as Assistant Press Attaché in Mexico City, Mexico; as a Vice Consul in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Port-au-Prince, Haiti; as Cultural Attaché’ in Yaoundé, Cameroon; and as a Junior Officer Trainee in Paris, France. In Washington, D.C., he served as International Advisor to the NGO “Global Ties U.S.,” as Deputy Press Spokesperson in the State Department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, and as a Public Diplomacy Officer in the Bureau of International Organizations Affairs.
Mr. Zimmerman has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Baltimore.
Before joining the Foreign Service in 1993, Mr. Zimmerman practiced law in New Jersey. He worked for the Community Health Law Project and Essex Newark Legal Services, which provide assistance to indigent clients in civil legal matters. He was a law clerk for the Peace Corps General Counsel’s Office; the United Nations Office of the Legal Counsel; and the Maryland State Attorney General’s Office.
Mr. Zimmerman’s foreign languages are Spanish, French, Haitian Creole, and Czech. He is admitted to the Bars of New Jersey and Maryland.
