[:en]The 2019 Hemispheric Situation Conference was held on April 9 – 12, 2019. This event is critical in the students’ academic year as it helps provide the foundation for analyzing the hemisphere using strategic planning with a general and sub-regional geopolitical picture. The students heard from Contralmirante Francisco Yabar, keynote speaker, on how the Western Hemisphere members can work together to overcome the risks and challenges they may face, along with various subject matter experts.[:]

[:en]Hall of Honor – Contralmirante Jarrín[:]

[:en]Contralmirante Jarrín, Ecuadorian Navy commander, spoke to students on International Relations, Defense and Security Analysis within the Andean Region and the hemisphere.After, Maj. Gen. James E. Taylor, IADC director, recognized Jarrín for his commitment and contributions to his nation, the hemisphere and the world, during a Hall of Honor ceremony.[:]

[:en]2019 Peace Keeping Operations seminar[:]

[:en]The Inter-American Defense College partnered with the Canadian Armed Forces for the 2019 Peace Support Operations seminar. Maj Gen James E Taylor, IADC director, provided opening remarks, Dr. David Emelifeonwu, course director, presented the course overview, and Col. (R) Gonzalo Mila spoke on the topic of solutions to deescalate conflict. The students faced a variety of challenges regarding international peace support operations and learn about ways to mitigate these challenges to ensure successful missions.[:]

[:en]Class 58 visits the Pentagon[:]

[:en]Class 58 students visit the Pentagon, March 29, 2019. The had a chance to tour the building, and hear from multiple speakers on topics such as national security, foreign affairs, counter narcotics and the Joint Chiefs of Staff role within the hemisphere.[:]

[:en]Class 58 visits Capitol Hill[:]

[:en]Class 58 students visit Capitol Hill March 28, 2019. This experience provided students with a chance to hear about some of the missions that occur within the Capitol and how they impact the hemisphere.[:]

[:en]Gen. Jarrín visits IADC[:]

[:en]General Oswaldo Jarrín, Ecuador’s minister of defense and Class 28 alumnus, visited the IADC and spoke to Class 58 students on March 26, 2019. Maj Gen James E Taylor recognized Jarrín for his commitment and contributions to his nation, the hemisphere and the world, during a Hall of Honor ceremony. He had a chance to tour the campus, engage with leadership and reminisce on his times as a student.[:]

[:en]Former IADC Directors visit[:]

[:en]Maj. Gen. (R) Carl Freeman and Rear Adm. (R) Jeffrey Lemmons, former IADC directors, returned to the college March 26, 2019. During their visit, they learned about the new innovations within the college and how it has evolved since their tenure. They toured the campus and learned about the current mission and objectives of the institution.[:]
