Type in the search field “Colegio Interamericano de Defensa” or “Inter-American Defense College”. The screen will appear immediately showing the location of the College. Press “GO”, and follow the driving instructions.
The Fort McNair main gate also known as “Central Access Point” is open from…and is located on 2nd street, SW. From the Central Access Point make a right at the first intersection onto 5th Avenue and then turn right. Turn left onto B street then at the intersection of B St and 1st street turn right. You have now arrived at the IADC.
The Main Gate/Visitor’s Gate on 2nd Street SW is open 24/7.
All non-DoD/non-federally affiliated visitors MUST use this gate to access Fort McNair.

A federal or state government-issued photo ID with biographic information such as name, date of birth, gender, and address is required. Security badges are not acceptable. All credentials are subject to screening and vetting by Installation Access Control personnel.
Non-DoD/non-federally affiliated visitors’ vehicles are subject to search.
The Ceremonial Gate on 4th Street SW is open ONLY from 0600 to 0900 in the morning and 1500 to 1800 in the evening. Monday-Friday (closed on federal holidays).
A DoD- or federal government-issued civilian employee photo ID is required for all personnel entering by foot or vehicle. The turnstile at the gate requires a CAC and pre-registered PIN to enter; it is open 24/7 — unrestricted — to all exiting personnel.
1. Take highway 395 North, stay in lane marked for highway 395.
2. Go over the 14th Street Bridge.
3. Continue on 395 North.
4. Exit to the right at the Maine Avenue exit. Stay to the left.
5. After a stop sign, continue straight to the light and make a left turn onto Maine Avenue.
6. Continue straight on Maine Avenue; it will change to M Street.
7. Continue straight on M Street, turn right onto 4th Street (on the left side of the street there is a small shopping center – Waterside Mall, and you will see a Safeway sign).
8. Stay in the right lane on 4th Street, the road will turn left and become P Street.
9. Take the immediate right turn into the Ft. McNair gate. You are now on 3rd Avenue inside Ft. McNair.
10. At the end of 3rd Avenue, turn right onto B Street. The IADC, Building 52, is on the right.
11. Parking is at the end of B Street to the right in front of a picnic area.
1. Get on US-50 W in Prince George‘s County from MD-3 S
2. Follow US-50 W and State Hwy 295 to Suitland Pkwy in Washington. Exit from I-295 S
3. Merge onto US-50 W
4. Take the MD-201 S/Kenilworth Ave exit toward I-295/Alexandria Avenue exit. Stay to the left.
5. Merge onto Baltimore-Washington Pkwy
6. Continue onto MD-201
7. Continue onto State Hwy 295
8. Continue onto Anacostia Fwy/Kenilworth Ave Fwy
9. Anacostia Fwy/Kenilworth Ave Fwy turns slightly right and becomes I-295 S/Anacostia Fwy S
10. Take the exit toward Suitland Pkwy
11. Keep right and merge onto Suitland Pkwy
12. Take S Capitol St SE and P St SW to your destination
13. Merge onto Suitland Pkwy
14. Use any lane to turn slightly right onto S Capitol St SE
15. At the traffic circle, take the 3rd exit
16. Continue onto Q St SW
17. Turn right onto Half St SW
18. Turn left onto P St SW
19. On 2nd Street SW, take the turn into the Ft. McNair gate. You are now entering the central access point for screening.
20. Turn right onto 5th Ave and then left onto B St.
21. The IADC, Building 52, is on the right.
1. Take 9th Street NW south toward Maine Ave or go down Rock Creek Parkway via Independence Ave. to Maine Ave.
2. Continue straight on Maine Avenue; it will change to M Street.
3. Follow steps 7-11 above.
