On Thursday, March 23, the Inter-American Defense College (IADC) students and staff visited the United States Capitol to learn about the fundamental facets of American democracy and civil-military relations in the United States.  The IADC students observed a posture briefing of the SOUTHCOM and NORTHCOM Commanders before the Senate Armed Forces Committee, received a briefing from a Professional Staff Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and conducted a U.S. Capitol tour.  The visit enhanced students’ understanding of the enumerated powers of the United States Congress, reinforced their understanding of Congress’ role in the oversight of the Armed Forces and the formulation and execution of U.S. foreign policy, and demonstrated how the United States resources its security and defense requirements.
