The Inter-American Defense College commenced the Outside Continental United States (OCONUS) Field Study on Sunday, 1 May 2022. The 57 students of Class 61, led by the faculty and accompanied by the College’s leadership and support personnel, departed Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland for their first stop in Panama. Following Panama, the students will also visit the Dominican Republic before returning home. Over the course of the next 12 days, Class 61 will experience a series of immersive activities through which they will gain an in-depth understanding of the multiple challenges confronting defense and security forces in Latin America. The OCONUS Field Study is a credit-bearing event in the College’s Master of Science in Hemispheric Defense and Security program and is a critical prerequisite for the Capstone exercise which will take place later this month.
