Through the use of guest speakers, expert panels, readings, and group exercises, the IADC’s 2021 annual Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law Seminar will foster a dialogue aimed at promoting more effective protection of human rights across the hemisphere. As we continue to face the global Covid-19 crisis, it is more important than ever to develop a greater understanding of our fundamental human rights and our shared responsibility to defend them. In addition to serving as an introduction to Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, the seminar will examine issues such as: refugee and migration flows, human trafficking, non-traditional threats, the use of armed forces for domestic policing, and the relationship among human rights, public security, and defense. This event is made possible thanks to the generous participation of partner nations from around the hemisphere, non-governmental organizations, and U.S. SOUTHCOM.
