Last week from the 29 August to 2 September the students of Class 62 conducted the New York City Field Study activity. This was the first time in three years that the IADC was able to execute this field study in person, and it provided a great springboard for the core courses that the students will begin this week. Across the three-day event, Class 62 was exposed to the symbols and institutions representative of democracy, international peace and collaboration, and free markets. Day one included a tour of the Statue of Liberty, where Class 62 received invaluable information on a globally recognized bastion of freedom. On Day two the students of Class 62 received a rare glimpse into the machinery that supports global democracy and socioeconomic development with a tour of the United Nations, followed by individual receptions with their respective country missions. On Day three, the students experienced the ringing of the bell from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, and received thought-provoking and content-rich presentations over the global financial system, and over the New York National Guard’s emergency response capabilities. The field study culminated with a special presentation and tour at the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
