Brazilian Army Maj. Gen. Reinaldo Salgado Beato, director general of the IADB Secretariat; Peruvian Air Force Maj. Gen. César Macedo García, chairman of the IADB Council of Delegates; and U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Joseph M. Lestorti, Inter-American Defense College director, joined defense ministers, senior defense officials and delegations from across the Western Hemisphere.

Participants took part in plenary sessions, senior-leader discussions, working meetings and document reviews focused on shared defense and security priorities. Topics included humanitarian assistance, disaster response, cyber defense, critical infrastructure, border security and maritime security.

The conference also featured the official presentation of the Mechanism for Cooperation in Disasters, or MECODE, which supports timely information sharing and international coordination for humanitarian assistance and disaster response across the Western Hemisphere.
